Mobile community & Microsoft Tag at WCIT 2010

door Michiel Hazen op 23 June, 2010

Microsoft Tag at WCIT 2010 From May 25th to May 27th the city of Amsterdam hosted the 2010 World Congress on Information Technology WCIT 2010. To offer an extended social networking experience WCIT launched an event community to support networking and matchmaking. Sparked worked in close collaboration with Microsoft and others to deliver a mobile community experience for all delegates and other event participants.

Mobile Social Matching

We’ve created a mobile interface for the online community and integrated that with the Microsoft Tag platform. On each delegate badge a Tag was printed that linked to their personal online community profile.

Lead generation and privacy

By snapping the badge other delegates could view the profile and connect with the delegate. Only after both delegates snapped each other contact details were exchanged. This was done to make sure that the delegates’ privacy was respected and event partners couldn’t snap badges and obtain contact information without permission.

When someone who was working for a partner in one of the pavilions snapped a delegate, the delegate received a message asking him or her to approve the connection. Furthermore they could specify if and how they wanted to share their contact details with a partner. Partners could download the contact details of delegates that allowed their contact details to be collected by the partner.

Green goodie bag

Another dimension of the mobile event experience were the so called Green Goodie Bags for storing partner show cases and other relevant content. On the partner pavilions all kinds of showcases were presented. Instead of handing out paper flyers or folders, each showcase had a Tag that could be snapped. By snapping the Tag, a summary of the showcase was shown and it could be added to the Green Goodie Bag. Delegates could collect the contents of their Goodie Bag by having an email send (with PDF-files attached) to their registered email address.

To make sure that every delegate could use their Green Goodie Bag and collect goodies this function had text message integration. For every goodie Tag an SMS code was available, so delegates without a camera phone could use their goodie bag as well.

For this innovative project we worked in close cooperation with Microsoft, students of Hogeschool INHolland (University of Applied Sciences) to work on the interaction design, ConfNetwork for their online even community and Sping for the SMS integration. Building on the same platform we’ve also worked with 7scenes, De Waag and Microsoft on the LocalXS initiative.
